Lesson 1 - Beginning the Process

Set Your Course

  1. Introduction: You have traveled far, but now you begin to sense that you are lost. You ask the people around you, "Which way?" Many point to one path, some to another and others say, "It doesn't matter as long as you keep moving." But you know it does matter, so you call Gary, ask for directions and wait for his response.

    "Where are you now?" is his first question, for without this vital piece of information, he cannot tell you which way to go.
  2. Purpose: Lesson 1 will help you understand where you are now, so that you can begin to set your course.

    Understand that "setting a course" does not mean rejecting who you are or devoting every waking moment to "making progress:" that would be exchanging one set of stresses for another. Life is a journey of sorts, but your purpose is not to rush toward a destination, but rather to create an environment that honors and nurtures who you are and allows you to appreciate every day along the way!

  3. Focus: This is a self-empowerment program based on a Wellness paradigm. The program will take you through 3 basic phases:
    • Detoxification and cleansing
    • Rebuilding
    • Self-actualization
    At any given moment, either your body is processing wellness or it is moving towards disease. Focus on building wellness.
  4. Article: Read this article to get some insight into why your body may not be optimally well and an understanding of what you can do about it.

  5. The Protocol: The protocols you will follow for the first few months (phase 1) of the program will focus on elimination and detoxification.

  6. Written Exercises: These written exercises begin the process of self-examination that will help you to see more clearly where you are today and where your present path is leading. Once you know where you are, you can set off in a new, more positive direction.

    So, take a deep breath, step back and begin the necessary task, of viewing your own life with objectivity. Click here for Homework 1.
  7. Clean Up Your World: Begin uncluttering your life. Focus on one area at the time and clean it up completely.

    Empty your cabinets and refrigerator of all items that you will no longer eat and restock with new, nutritious foods.

    Keep a list of all of the areas that require cleaning up and check each one as you go along.
  8. Stress Reduction & Physical Activity: Build into your routine a minimum of one hour per day for yourself:
    • Set aside at least 30 minutes for quiet time when you sit and meditate, deep-breathe and/or write in your journal.
    • Schedule at least 30 minutes per day for exercise. If you have no exercise plan yet, you may begin by simply walking.
    In future lessons, we will discuss specific stress reduction techniques and physical exercises. For now, the act of setting up and adhering to a schedule that includes quiet time and planned physical activity is crucial.

    Perhaps you will forego your usual TV shows or you will wake up earlier in order to reclaim time for these activities, but realize this: ALL YOU HAVE IS TIME. When you take control by committing blocks of time to positive activities, you will change your life for the better.
  9. Resources: We recommend that you purchase (or borrow from the library) 3 crucial resources to effectively carry you through the program:

  10. Conclusion: Begin actively taking control of your time.

    This first month of the Program is a time of transition during which you will examine your life and set a positive course.

    We recommend that you organize your materials and track your own progress in a looseleaf notebook with sections for lessons, written exercises, the protocols etc. Print out this page and all of your materials for future reference.

    Start uncluttering your life immediately. You will find that it is much easier to move ahead once you get rid of what you do not need. Keep your kitchen well-stocked with nutritious foods so that when hunger strikes, you will not be tempted to revert to old eating habits.
