Lesson 5 - Resolving Conflict

  1. Introduction: Another month passes and you finally tell the innkeeper that you are leaving to continue your journey. He looks startled, "Where will you go? I thought you liked it here."

"You thought I liked this godforsaken place? I stayed because you talked me into it.", you reply.

As you bolt out the door to meet Gary, you hear the innkeeper shout, "Good riddance."

Gary is surprised, "What's wrong with the innkeeper? Isn't he the one who gave you a place to stay and taught you how to cook? I expected you to hug him goodbye and thank him for his kindness."

"He gave me shelter, but I wasn't happy. I would have left weeks ago, but he talked me out of it. I should never have listened to him," you explain.

Gary shakes his head, "You could have left sooner, but you chose to stay. You don't need to justify your choice by blaming the innkeeper. Do you truly believe that he is responsible for your unhappiness?"
  2. Purpose: Lesson 5 shows how we create conflict within ourselves and towards others when we use our energy to "prove that we are right" rather than to create the happiness that honors our essential self.
  3. Focus: Focus on validating yourself by making positive changes that honor your essential self rather than letting your "need to be right" drive you.
  4. The Protocol: Month 5 continues the detoxification protocol.

  6. Stress Reduction & Physical Activity: Continue meditating 30 minutes each day. Continue exercising for 45 minutes, 6 days a week.
  7. Conclusion: Take back your power.

Accept responsibility for your emotions and do not let others determine how you will feel. Take control by replacing reactions with reasoned actions. Try this for an hour; then for a day; and ultimately make it part of your life. When you honor your essential self, you will experience harmony and peace.
